educate innovate

Educate Innovate is the website for David Horton, ICT and Computing Teacher, Trainer and Consultant. David has over 25 years in EdTech in both technical and teaching roles across a number of schools, so there is little that he doesn't know about the sector.  Alongside his son Thomas, he is also a director of Experience Motorsport, a company dedicate to uniting their shared passions of STEM learning in schools and motor racing.  David's day job is as Director of Teaching & Learning and Head of Digital Strategy for Orwell Park School in Suffolk and he is determined to remain a classroom teacher for as long as he can while still managing the competing demands of his various enterprises.

ABOUT

David  has been involved in technology in schools since the late 1990s and has worked in a variety of roles in  a range of different establishments.  He has worked as a Systems Manager, freelance consultant and full time teacher, both as Head of ICT and as Head of Science, and he has also been a housemaster in a boarding school.  Since 2000, he has been based in independent prep schools and in 2007 was appointed as one of three Subject Leaders for the IAPS (Independent Association of Prep Schools).  In 2011 he became the overall Subject Adviser for  ICT within the IAPS, to be called upon for support by over 600 schools worldwide.  David is also chair of the highly influential Independent Schools' Council's Digital Advisory Group, where he also continues to serve the IAPS, representing the interests of smaller schools.

David's focus is building on his wealth of expertise and experience to become a valuable resource for other educators.  He has produced a set of training videos for senior managers and recently starting posting a short weekly video with IT related tips for teachers.  David frequently contributes articles for various publications and runs a mailing list forum for a few hundred IT leaders in prep schools, to which he is also a regular contributor.

David's mission statement is, "I came into schools to help children, and then realised that the best way to help children is to help teachers."
